On June 8, 2018, VoxFairfax voiced concern about the decline of the Republican Party as a distinct political entity. Its decline was reflected in internecine attacks by allied sects from the far right against RINOs and cuckservatives, creating something of a black hole of energy drawing the entire species into a compressed nucleus. As the force of that vortex increased over time, outlying elements surrendered their energy and succumbed.
We noted that John Boehner declared “There is no Republican Party.” The remark seemed more apocryphal than factual. Now, however, other signs have emerged suggesting a continuing process of nuclear consumption threatening the species.
More than two dozen Republican members of Congress have declined to run for reelection or have resigned from office following some scandal.
Steven Wynn, the Las Vegas casino mogul, resigned a high visibility role at the Republican National Committee following sexual allegations.
Elliott Broidy resigned from the Republican National Committee as a deputy finance chair after it was revealed that he had impregnated an aide and paid her a sum of money in a nondisclosure agreement negotiated by Michael Cohen.
Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former personal attorney, resigned an officer’s position with the Republican National Committee, announcing that he did not agree with the administration’s policy on family separation at the border.
Michael Bloomberg, former Republican mayor of NYC, announced an $80M fund to elect Democrats to gain a majority in Congress.
Steve Schmidt, McCain campaign manager in 2008 and 29-year member of the Republican Party, announced his resignation to become independent.
State Senator Emmett Hanger (R) was formally censured by his county committee for voting for Medicaid expansion in Virginia.
On June 14, 2018 SE Cupp, noted Republican commentator for CNN, bemoaned a tweet by the RNC’s Chair Ronna McDaniel that praised loyalty to the President and, to Cupp, suggested the party was out of ideas.
In his June 22, 2018, column in The Washington Post, noted conservative George Will lamented Republican misrule, citing Stephen Miller, Corey Lewandowski, Paul Ryan, and the administration of President Trump. Will urged voting against Trump’s “cowering congressional caucuses” to “affirm the nation’s honor while quarantining him.”
What seemed just a few weeks ago possibly a transient phenomenon appears to be cascading further and exaggerating the consumption of party members or folks who would generally align themselves with it. This is not healthy for the nation’s electoral system, raising an onus upon surviving Republicans—including RINOs and cuckservatives—to take steps to reconstitute the species and put brakes upon its decline.
