     In 1607, the Virginia Company established James Fort [later Jamestown] on

    the east bank of the Powhatan [Now James] River.

     In 1961, a Freedom Riders bus arrived in Richmond, Virginia, where the

    group had an uneventful lunch at the bus terminal.

     In 1970, four students were killed and nine wounded at Kent State University

    in Ohio by National Guard troops during a demonstration against the war in

    Vietnam.
